On Wed. 13th Feb., St. Columba’s N.S., Iona Road, received the first flag in Dublin as a Health-Promoting School. The flag was raised by Dr. Nazih Eldin.
The achievement of this flag was the culmination of three years work within the school under the leadership of class teacher, Una O’Riordan, and with the guidance of Anne Walshe from the HSE in Navan.
Pupils, parents and teachers have co-operated with this initiative with healthy eating, physical activities such as tennis in Charleville Tennis Club on Whitworth Road, camogie and ladies football with Colm, our coach from Na Fianna, rugby coaching from Leinster Rugby, no TV nights and healthy eating surveys.
Our theme for the raising of the flag was that of a “Healthy Heart” and pupils were asked to wear something red on the day. We look forward to keeping this healthy school attitude and to building on it in years to come.
